The power of notes?

The notes are very strong. They express their gratitude, encouragement, sympathy, forgiveness, congratulations, feelings and requests to others.

Many people create notes on a computer and send them over the Internet. But I believe the most effective note is handwritten. A handwritten note is personal and rare. This is why it will get the reader more attention and make the most impact.

A few weeks ago I was in Michigan for my father’s funeral. While there I attended my mother’s church on Sunday and met her priest for the second time. While talking to her, I learned that her mother had died a few months earlier and that her father was seriously ill. On my way back to Virginia I had a stop at Chicago O’Air Airport. While waiting for my connecting plane, I pulled out a box of note cards and wrote and mailed several notes. One of these was an encouraging note to my mother's priest. I found out later that he was so touched by the note that he took it to his church and read it at a meeting. He made it clear to the audience how enthusiastic he was. What I didn't know at the time of writing was that not only did his father die within the next week, but his wife also had cancer. I believe God used my note to help him at a very difficult time in his life. I was even more surprised that the number of people he spoke to had changed because of the note. Some of them are also writing notes now. What if I didn't write this note?
I would encourage you to start writing regular notes. An easy way to influence people's lives in a positive way. If you're worried about how to get started, the following two books on the subject have been the most effective for me:

- Margaret Shepherd's "The Art of the Handwritten Note: A Guide to Claiming a Civilized Communication"

- "Business notes: essays are personal notes that build professional relationships" by Florence Isaacs

Get a note card, pen and stamp. Write a note to him that you have in mind today. Because of the few minutes you take to write a few sentences from your busy schedule, only God knows how much that person and the world will change.
